Interior Design Work
On Working Remotely
Late August I went back to school and left behind an unfinished project. I didn't know exactly how this was going to work with there being a 3 hour time difference but so far we have made it work. Having flexible clients was amazing for me especially since I am in school. Shout out to amazing clients! Before leaving the project sites there was a lot of prep work. I prepped the clients on what was to come, the process and the next steps that were going to happen. I informed workers who were working on my projects and accumulated finishing touches aka accessories so even though I won't be there to finish the room it will still feel as if I was. I prepped the person who if an emergency was to arise on the project. I also prepped the stager who is setting all of the accessories. A lot of prep work goes into working remotely and trust. Working remotely is very different than working in person but just as rewarding and fun!
Here is an update on one of my projects.
Its about half way complete this project should be wrapped up around early October!

This project is for a new build. The house should be done in October and the client wanted the first room that you see to be designed first. Imagine walking through this grand front door and to the right double sliding glass doors where you can peer into a colorful, vibrant, home office.
This project was a totally clean slate. For this wife, mom, traveler, and charity organizer, I wanted something bright, white, with a infusion of indian colors. I started with this desk and bookshelf that are from the same collection at World Market. They set the tone for the room. I wanted to keep them neutral and add the color in other places. I laid this vibrant rug under the desk to keep it fun. I put a grey desk chair to keep it feeling a bit modern. The gold desk accessories from Anthropology vamp up this whole design and take it to the next level. They keep it trendy but also bring in the cultural aspect.
In this home office the client wanted the room to have many different functions. So I added a cozy lounging area. Complete with a grey lounge chair, a bright throw pillow, a metallic ottoman, some gold accent in the side table, and to make it super cozy I added the sheep skin rug. This little nook is opposite of a fully accessorized cube organizer, that can accommodate the television, toys and diapers for the clients children, and other items that need to be hidden. The lighting of this room changes the feelings. The wooden element that the main lighting fixture brings this space down to earth. It takes the bright down to a more rustic feeling. I think it tones the space down and gives it a cozier feeling. One of my favorite things about this home office was bringing in the gold sconces. They make the room. The give a finishing element and keep the space up to date.
This project will start once the family moves into their new build in October. I can't wait to see the finished product!

Tune in next week
I started this home office project in the middle of this summer. When starting this project my initial ideas was a masculine industrial home office. I wanted to bring in a lot of metals into the design. The clients wanted to stick with the desk they had previously purchased. It is a large wooden rectangle dining room table that works great so that they can have everything right there spread out. But for organizing it's a struggle. So I wanted to focus some of the design around organization. This is where we incorporated custom shelving. They already had these great arches that are a focal point of the room, but I thought we could use this space to not only to be a space to organize binders and magazine but we can make it look great and be appealing to the eye.
When making the collage of all the items that I thought where necessary for the home office I started with the lighting piece. I wanted to make a statement and set the tone of the room. This is an amazing 3 piece fixture from Restoration Hardware. Furthermore I needed to find a lot of desk accessories and items to organize the mountains of paperwork in this office. So I went to Pottery barn for most of the organizational items. They have a great line of galvanized steel office accessories that just flowed perfectly with my idea. Next I choose a rug from Rug USA, I was looking for something with a light pattern in a gray tone that would be a soft touch under a super masculine and rustic desk. Most of the accessories chosen for the desk and the custom bookshelves are light and bright to contrast the darker wall colors. This project is underway as we speak. I can't wait to reveal this home office to you guys in a few short weeks!

Sophomore Year of College.
As finals are completed and I am packing up all my summer clothes to embark on my journey back to the Pacific North West, I reminisce about my first year living on the East Coast. Here are some of my favorite memories from this year!
Fall.
New start. New school. New friends.
Starting the Interior Design program, learning the logistics about what I love and I am passionate about. Starting this program has made me grow and become more of the person I have always wanted to be. Also I have so much fun everyday!!
Meeting some of the greatest friends! And from so many different places. Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and more!
Adventures in the NYC! My love for the city exponentially grew. The first adventure of the year was with my friend Kerri. WE WALKED EVERYWHERE. (I soon learned the subway system haha)
The "hikes". To any Oregonian these hikes would be considered a walk. Not a lot of mountains in Southern CT, but the views where amazing. A hike in the fall in New England PERFECT. With new amazing friends it was definitely a highlight of the fall.
Winter.
My favorite thing from the winter season was spending two different days with my amazing boyfriend in two of our favorite cities Boston and New York City. In Boston we went and wandered around the farmers market trying crazy fruits we have never seen before and definitely aren't grown in Boston and then made our way over to Quincy Market and saw the huge Christmas tree. We accidentally/ we're really lucky we went on the tree lighting weekend. So we went and we're super New England and got clam chowder and a lobster roll. It was perfect.
Then came NYC. We did everything Christmas. Macy's window displays, Bergdorf Goodmans window displays, and the grandaddy of them all Rockefeller Center. It was utterly amazing.
Winter also brought the snow. It definitely wasn't as bad as I thought. I was terrified of the East Coast winter, but I survived and it wasn't that bad! February came and brought Valentines Day. My incredible boyfriend took me to the city and we wandered around The Met all day. The perfect date if you ask me.
Spring.
It was still cold but there was spring break. I explored every nook and cranny of the tiniest state Rhode Island! I'm so glad I had an amazing tour guide to show me everything in that precious little state. Shout out to Kerri!!
Next came the opportunity of a lifetime. I saw JIMMY FALLON LIVE! It was unbelievable. Definitely one of my favorite memories! I was front row laughing the entire time to Jimmy and his guest Melissa McCarthy. Shout out to Katy for making it all happen!!
Next came one of my favorite visitors! My friend Ali from Oregon. We adventured what seemed like the entire East Coast. I blogged about her visit. Reference 48hrs in Boston and New York to read more about Ali, tips and tricks, and our journey.
One of my final trips on the East Coast was going to Six Flags NJ with my boyfriend and our friends. It was a great trip to end the year. Churros, popcorn, screaming my head off, and a million rollercoasters!! Oh and if you were wondering there is always traffic in New York yes we drove back at 10pm and sat in traffic till midnight. TRAFFIC SUCKS!! But it was still the perfect, crazy fun day. Also I dodged riding King Da Ka the 3rd fastest roller coaster in the ENTIRE world hitting speeds of 127mph and that made the day so much better! (Yes I get freaked out on rollercoasters).
The end of another school year they seem to go by so fast. I can not tell you how thankful I am for my experience, the knowledge I have gained, the friends I have found, the quality time I got with my boyfriend adventuring the East Coast, my amazing Professors and classes, and everything in between. I can't wait to see what Junior year has in store for me!
